Rationale

Since 2019, the Cooler Communities organization has been engaging students of all ages in learning about climate solutions through teacher grants, school enrichment programs, free resources, and professional development. We quickly found that young people care a great deal about our changing climate and want to live in a healthy, safe, and beautiful world. They also want to find out what they can do to shape their future.

In 2023, we launched The Energy Detectives program to provide free books and free standards-aligned lesson plans to elementary students and their teachers.  The Energy Detectives series, written by Madelyn Rosenberg and illustrated by Paul Meisel, supports children’s understanding of climate solutions like energy conservation and solar energy.

As citizens, innovators, and governments work together to rebuild our energy system and reduce carbon pollution, young people of all ages deserve to be educated about the topic and participate in creating change at age appropriate levels.

The Brookings Institution has reported that children who receive an education in climate change and climate solutions will change their behavior and impact their families’ decisions, potentially saving gigaton of future carbon emissions.

We hope these books inspire you to learn and work together for the good of your family, your community, and the earth!
